ISTANBUL · BOND STREET · HATTON GARDEN · STAMFORD Bond Street and Hatton Garden pedigree, brought to a stone-market town in Lincolnshire.
Ercan Onguc's family are jewellers in Istanbul, his trade was the family
trade from the start. He moved to the UK and worked in the London jewellery
districts, Bond Street first, then Hatton Garden, building the network of
master diamond setters, polishers and mounters whose work still passes
through the back room of every Lanes commission.
Carli is the desk and the dialogue, the person most engagement-ring
customers first sketch with. The pair opened Lanes Fine Jewellery on
Red Lion Square in November 2022, in the former Clarks unit
they had quietly liked for years. The Leicester store has since closed,
Stamford is now the only Lanes shop, and the larger upstairs consultation
room is the room every bespoke brief is sketched in.
“We came to Stamford and absolutely fell in love with the town. It is a stunning place and people are lovely.”
Carli Onguc, Stamford Mercury, 15 November 2022
